Epuni is the uncle of Warepori. Under the same unfavourable circumstances as his nephew, he has nobly deserved the name of "a true gentleman." He still lives at the village of Pitone, loved and respected by the English inhabitants of all ranks. These portraits were drawn at the time of the purchase in 1839... the village of Pitone and the flag-staff at the foot of which Colonel Wakefield took formal possession, appear in the back-ground.
