Michael Gough va néixer el 23 de novembre del 1913 a Kuala Lumpur, Malàsia, és un actor britànic nominat als Premis Òscar per haver aparegut en més de cent pel·lícules amb papers secundaris. Ell és potser més conegut pel públic internacional pel seu paper com a Alfred Pennyworth en quatre pel·lícules de Batman.
Va néixer a Malàsia fill de pares britànics: Frances Atkins i Francis Berkeley Gough. Michael Gough féu el seu debut com a actor l'any 1947 a Blanche Fury i des de llavors va aparèixer repetides vegades a la televisió britànica i participà en la sèrie de ciència-ficció de major duració de la televisió anglesa: Doctor Who, com també fou el villà de la sèrie The Celestial Toymaker. Es casà amb Anneke Wills, qui era una acompanyant anomenada Polly del doctor a Doctor Who.
Ell és famós entre els fanàtics de l'horror degut a les seves aparicions en les pel·lícules d'horror britàniques en els '60 com a Hammer's Dracula i a The Phantom of the Opera (1962).
Les seves pel·lícules més recents són: Sleepy Hollow (1999) i La núvia cadàver (2005), ambdues de Tim Burton.
Gough guanyà als Premis Tony de Broadway l'any 1979 com a millor actor destacat en una obra de teatre per Bedroom Farce. Fou nominat en la mateixa categoria el 1988 per Breaking the Code.
