Àmlaith va ser el primer rei d'Arthedain, un dels regnes dels dúnedain del nord de la Terra Mitjana que va surgir de la divisió d'Àrnor, i que forma part del llegendari de J.R.R. Tolkien.

Àmlaith de Fórnost era el fill gran d'Eärèndur, el desé rei d'Àrnor. Estava, per tant, destinat a esdevenir l'onzè rei d'Àrnor. Tanmateix, ell i els seus dos germans tenien constants disputes que es van convertir en una guerra civil quan va morir el seu pare l'any 861. Incapaç d'obtenir el domini sobre la totalitat del territori Àmlaith va fundat el regne d'Arthedain. mentrestant, els seus germans fundaven els regnes de Cardolan i Rhudaur.

El seu regne a Arthedain va ser majoritàriament pacífic, tot i que hi havia constants disputes fronteres amb els regnes veïnsde Cardolan i Rhudaur. Sota el seu govern la capital es va traslladar oficialment d'Annúminas a Fórnost.

Així com els seus avantpassats havien pres un nom en quenya, ell va ser el primer a prendre un nom en síndarin.

A la seva mort dou succeït pel seu fill Béleg.
