Wayne Rainey (Los Angeles, Califòrnia, 23 d'octubre de 1960) és un ex-pilot de motociclisme de velocitat nord-americà, un dels més reeixits durant la dècada de 1980 i començaments de la de 1990.

Trajectòria

Després d'un breu període a la categoria de 250cc, l'any 1988 començà a competir a la categoria reina de 500cc, aconseguint entre 1990 i 1992 tres Campionats del món de 500cc consecutius pilotant una Yamaha.

El 1993, degut a un accident durant el Gran Premi d'Itàlia al Circuit de Misano, essent líder del Campionat del Món amb 11 punts d'avantatge sobre el seu compatriota Kevin Schwantz, Rainey quedà peraplègic de cintura a n'avall, veient-se forçat a deixar el món del motociclisme.

L'época de finals dels 80 i principis dels 90 és coneguda com l'época d'or del motociclisme, en part, degut als inoblidables duels entre Wayne Rainey, Kevin Schwantz, Michael Doohan, Eddie Lawson, Wayne Gardner i John Kocinski.
